Two people were hurt in a suspected racing crash on Interstate 805 near the transition to Interstate 5 in Sorrento Valley, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
One person was transported with a major head injury and another person was transported with serious trauma, a battalion chief said.
The crash happened around 2:15 p.m. when two cars suspected of racing collided on the northbound I-805 near the Sorrento Valley Boulevard. As many as four cars may have been involved in the accident, according to witnesses.
The crash caused the blue Nissan 350Z to spin out of control and slammed into the center divider and ending up in the middle lanes facing oncoming traffic. A person, possibly the driver of the Nissan, was seen in a witness’ cell phone video lying in traffic lanes outside of the car after the crash.
All northbound lanes, save for the by-pass transition lanes to state Route 56, of the 805 were shut down as the California Highway Patrol investigated the crash.
Lanes were reopened shortly after 5 p.m.
