A woman suffered serious injuries Wednesday night when she crashed her car into a pole in Solana Beach and had to be extricated from the wreckage.

The accident occurred around 8:45 p.m. in the 300 block of Lomas Santa Fe Drive, sheriff’s Lt. Dave Perkins said.

The woman was driving a 2004 Volvo sedan westbound on Lomas Santa Fe Drive when she lost control of the car for unknown reasons and slammed into a telephone pole, the lieutenant said.

The woman, who was the lone occupant of the Volvo, was trapped in her car when deputies arrived and later extricated by firefighters, Perkins said.

The victim was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla with major injuries, but not thought to be life-threatening, he said.

Alcohol or drugs were not believed to be factors in the crash, Perkins said.
