A child was killed and the four other people in a Toyota Camry were injured in a collision with a pickup truck Monday in Ramona that prompted the closure of a stretch of state Route 78 for four hours.

Two people in the Camry were critically injured and two others were moderately injured, Cal Fire Capt. Jon Heggie told City News Service.

The 77-year-old Oregon man driving the 2014 Ram sustained non-life-threatening injuries, 10News reported.

The collision occurred about 11 a.m. at West Haverford Road north of the Pine Tree Acres Christmas Tree Farm, Heggie said.

A witness told 10News the Camry veered off the side of the road and the driver overcorrected, colliding with the truck.

The child who was killed was a 5-year-old boy, CBS8 reported. He was seated in the Camry’s back seat with a 6-year-old boy, neither of whom were wearing their shoulder harnesses, according to broadcast reports.
