A thief fired off a gun while robbing a Mission Valley bank late Friday afternoon, but nobody was hurt.

The robbery at the US Bank branch office in the 1400 block of Frazee Road was reported shortly after 4:30 p.m., according to San Diego Police.

Officers descended on the area in force due to the reported gunfire and cordoned off part of the commercial area surrounding the bank.

A SWAT team moved through the bank building and other nearby structures in search of the robber, who remained at large in the early evening, Sgt. Michael Tansey said.
