A cyclist was hospitalized Friday morning with life-threatening head injuries suffered in a collision with an SUV in the Bay Terraces neighborhood of San Diego.

Officers responded about 10:50 p.m. Thursday to the 7300 block of Paradise Valley Road and discovered the victim, according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department. He was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, he said.

An investigation determined a 52-year-old man driving his 2018 Nissan Pathfinder westbound on Paradise Valley Road in the No. 1 lane hit the cyclist, Heims said. The driver said he did not see where the bicyclist came from.

Alcohol or drugs were not a factor in the crash, Heims said. The accident was being investigated by Traffic Division detectives.
