Two people died after two vehicles crashed and burst into flames on State Route 78 in the San Felipe Creek Ecological Reserve near Borrego Springs.
The crash was reported about 7 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Witnesses told the CHP the two vehicles were burning together and that a man with a fire extinguisher was trying to put out the flames.
The CHP confirmed one person in each vehicle died, the San Diego Union Tribune reported.
Few other details of the accident were immediately available.
