A probationer who allegedly stabbed a 65-year-old clerk to death at a Midway-area sex shop was behind bars Tuesday, facing murder and robbery charges.
Shaun Ward, 39, was arrested Monday in connection with the slaying of 65-year-old Diane Spagnuolo of El Cajon, who was found dead earlier in the day at X Spot Adult Store, 3606 Midway Drive, according to San Diego police.
“The preliminary investigation has shown that the victim was assaulted while inside the business,” Lt. Anthony Dupree said.
A surveillance camera in the shop captured images of Ward prior to the slaying, which was reported about 12:45 p.m., according to police.
The suspect was being held without bail at San Diego Central Jail pending arraignment, scheduled for Thursday afternoon. Among the charges on which he was booked was vandalism. Authorities did not disclose the reason for that criminal count or details on the robbery allegation.
