A Caltrans worker was injured Wednesday when he fell several stories from an overpass on state Route 163 in the Kearny Mesa area, officials said.
It happened shortly after 3 a.m. on southbound state Route 163 near the connector ramp to Interstate 805, California Highway Patrol Officer Jim Bettencourt said.
A Caltrans crew was on southbound SR-163 doing landscaping and street sweeping work when one of the workers fell around 50 feet off the overpass onto a grassy area near the transition road to I-805, 10News reported.
The man was transported to a hospital, Bettencourt said. The extent of his injuries was not immediately available.
Around 3:35 a.m., CHP officers closed the southbound SR-163 connector to I-805, Bettencourt said. It was reopened around 6:05 a.m.
