A Riverside County couple has been arrested in connection with a series of vehicle break-ins at Fallbrook hiking trailheads, and a sheriff’s spokesman said San Diego County wasn’t the only target of the alleged crimes.

Craig Truckenbrodt, 43, and his 31-year-old girlfriend, Dayna Navas, were detained Thursday by deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department following a vehicle break-in at Live Oak County Park in the 2700 block of Reche Road in Fallbrook.

According to San Diego sheriff’s Lt. Ricardo Lopez, items stolen from the victim’s car were located inside Truckenbrodt’s vehicle and Nava’s purse.

As part of the investigation, eight vehicle break-ins at Fallbrook hiking trailheads have been connected to Truckenbrodt, according to Lopez. The series of thefts began in early June, with a majority of the crimes occurring at the Los Jilgueros Preserve walking trail on South Mission Road, according to Lopez.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department and Murrieta Police Department estimate they have upward of 20 investigations connected to Truckenbrodt, Lopez said.

Truckenbrodt and Navas were arrested and booked into the Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of vehicle burglary, identity theft, narcotics possession and possession of stolen property; both are being held on $250,000 bail, according to Lopez.
