A 46-year-old woman suspected of attempting to steal a 44-year-old man’s vehicle while threatening him with a knife in the Hillcrest area is jailed Thursday morning, police said.

The incident happened shortly before 10:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 1200 block of University Avenue, San Diego police Officer Robert Heims said.

The man was sitting in his vehicle when the woman got into the passenger seat holding a knife in her hand, Heims said.

The victim got out of the vehicle and the woman chased him with the knife demanding his wallet. When the man ran inside a nearby business, the woman went back to try and steal the vehicle, Heims said.

The man returned to his vehicle and pulled the woman out while she was swinging the knife at him, Heims said.

The woman fled the scene before police arrived.

A description of the vehicle was not immediately available.

No injuries were reported.

Rachel Godwin, 46, was arrested later in the 1400 block of University Avenue on suspicion of attempted vehicle theft and attempted robbery, Heims said.

Department detectives were investigating the incident.
