A 21-year-old man was hospitalized Monday with serious, but non-life threatening injuries after he crashed into a tree in the Carmel Mountain area.
The accident happened shortly after 11:30 p.m. Sunday in the 11600 block of Ted Williams Parkway, San Diego Police Officer John Buttle said.
The man was driving eastbound on Ted Williams Parkway when he jumped the curb and struck a tree on the right shoulder, Buttle said.
The driver suffered an open fracture to his right leg, shattered both knees and had a laceration to his forehead, Buttle said.
He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of the injuries, which were not expected to be life-threatening, Buttle said.
Alcohol or drugs were believed to be a factor in the crash, Buttle said.
A vehicle description was not immediately available.
Traffic division officers were investigating the crash.
