A man who fatally shot another man during a fight at a South Bay bar more than 12 years ago is expected to be sentenced to 18 years in prison this fall after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter.

Guillermo Gonzalez Nunez, 44, fled to Mexico after the April 3, 2006, killing of 54-year-old Willie Clark Jr. at the La Vuelta bar on Hollister Street in Palm City.

Gonzalez was on the run for more than 10 years until he was arrested in Mexico and returned to the United States to face murder and other charges in May 2016. He pleaded guilty Wednesday.

The defendant — who also pleaded guilty to assault with a semi- automatic weapon on a second victim — is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 11 at the courthouse in Chula Vista.
