Authorities reached out to the public Friday for help identifying and locating a man suspected of fatally stabbing a 65-year-old man in Old Town last weekend.
Patrol officers responding to a report of an injured person in the 4500 block of Pacific Highway around 2 a.m. Saturday found Steven Barnes of San Diego lying on a sidewalk in the area, suffering from cuts and other suspicious injuries to his upper body, according to police.
Paramedics pronounced Barnes dead at the scene, San Diego police Lt. Anthony Dupree said.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic and black or white and black roughly 5 feet 9 man in his early 20s with a thin build, a goatee and shoulder- length dark hair. He was last seen wearing tan Dickie style shorts with red stripes, a light colored shirt, a black backpack with white stripes and was riding a yellow Ofo bicycle.
Anyone who might be able to help investigators determine the suspect’s identity is asked to call San Diego Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477 or contact the agency online at sdcrimestoppers.org. Tipsters may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
