A Bay Park house fire Wednesday caused an estimated $500,000 damage to the structure and $150,000 to contents, but nobody was hurt.

No one was in the single-story residence on Dakota Drive, off Clairemont Drive, when San Diego Fire Department units arrived around 2:45 a.m. and began to tackle flames in the attic, SDFD spokeswoman Monica Munoz said. The fire was extinguished at 3:04 a.m.

The blaze was confined to the attic, with smoke damage throughout the property, she said. The cause of the fire was under investigation.

Fire crews spoke to the owner of the house, which was being remodeled, and determined that the residents were staying elsewhere and did not require assistance from the American Red Cross, Munoz said.
