A body found near Ocotillo Wells is believed to be that of a man who was reported missing Thursday, a sheriff’s official reported.
The remains were discovered Friday around 5 p.m., approximately four miles from an abandoned vehicle.
Although officials have not confirmed the body to be that of the missing man, an extensive search was launched Thursday around 4:30 p.m. after California state parks rangers received a call about a driver who was missing and was presumably stuck in the sand near Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area, according to Lt. Damon Blankenbaker of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
Temperatures in the Ocotillo Wells area have exceeded 100 degrees over the past two days.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an investigation in order to determine the victim’s identity and cause of death.
