A man was shot in the ankle Saturday evening in a hail of gunfire on an Encanto street, police reported.

The 25-year-old man was standing on the street when a male suspect allegedly approached and fired about seven shots at him, according to the San Diego Police Department.

It happened shortly after 8:30 p.m. in the 600 block of Stork Street.

When the victim saw the gun, he fled but was still hit in the ankle, said SDPD officials who transported the him to a hospital for treatment of the non-life-threatening injury.

Police are searching for the suspect, who remains at large.
