The San Diego Police Department announced it will set up a DUI and license checkpoint somewhere in the city limits on Saturday night.

Officers will be stopping drivers between 11 p.m. Saturday and 3 a.m. Sunday to check for signs of alcohol or marijuana impairment as wells as proper licensing.

The location will be chosen based on previous DUI accidents and arrests.

Police routinely announce the checkpoints in advance because of the deterrent effect on people who may drink alcohol or smoke marijuana and then drive.

Over the past three years, the San Diego Police have investigated 2,381 DUI collisions which have claimed 19 lives and resulted in another 2,257 injuries.
