Firefighters Sunday contained a small brush fire north of San Marcos, though not before it destroyed a small structure.

Cal Fire San Diego spokesman Isaac Sanchez said dispatchers received word of the fire at 2:25 p.m., which broke out in vegetation near the intersection of Deer Springs Road and Sarver Lane in a rural area just west of Interstate 15.

A small outbuilding was destroyed in the fire, but no one was injured, Sanchez said. The structure was abandoned, according to San Diego County sheriff’s deputies.

Firefighters from both Cal Fire and the San Marcos Fire Department stopped the forward spread of the blaze at about 3:20 p.m. It was initially estimated at 3 acres, but later was corrected to 2.

Sarver Lane was closed for about an hour.

Cal Fire San Diego tweeted that full containment was reached by about 5:30 p.m.
