An 11-year-old girl escaped an alleged kidnapping attempt Tuesday near Jamul Primary School, and sheriff’s investigators are asking for the public’s help in finding the suspect.
The child was walking on a dirt trail near the school on Lyons Valley Road around 3:49 p.m. when she was approached and forcibly grabbed by an unknown male, according to sheriff’s Lt. Thomas Seiver.
The girl escaped but suffered a minor arm abrasion, the lieutenant said.
Deputies searched the area but could not locate the suspect. On Wednesday, a suspect sketch was released in the hopes the public could help identify him.
Deputies will provide extra patrols and resources before and after school hours for the remainder of the week, according to Seiver.
The Jamul-Dulzura Union School District is working in collaboration with the sheriff’s department “to ensure the safety of all students,” he said.
All schools in the district will remain on normal schedules.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
