A 57-year-old man was hospitalized with several life-threatening injuries on Thursday after his car was broadsided by an SUV in a San Carlos intersection.

The collision happened about 5 p.m. at Jackson Drive and Park Ridge Boulevard, a little west of Cowles Mountain, San Diego Police Officer Robert Heims said.

It was unclear who entered the intersection first, but a 2015 Nissan Rogue headed south on Jackson Drive broadsided a 2001 Saturn station wagon eastbound on Park Ridge Boulevard, Heims said.

The Saturn’s 57-year-old driver was rushed to a hospital with multiple life-threatening injuries, while the 62- year-old man driving the Nissan SUV only had complaints of pain.

San Diego Police Department’s traffic division was investigating the crash.
