An investigation was underway Wednesday into the death of a 73-year-old man who was struck by a minivan on state Route 94 in Golden Hill.
The victim was trying to cross the westbound lanes of the freeway when a 2002 Honda Odyssey hit him shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Medics took the gravely injured San Diego resident to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name was withheld pending family notification.
Three of the four westbound lanes were closed in the area for a time as investigators documented evidence, CHP public-affairs Officer Jake Sanchez said.
