A 25-year-old motorcyclist suspected of riding while intoxicated was injured Wednesday morning when he ran a red light and collided with a vehicle in San Diego’s Grantville neighborhood.
It happened just before 12:30 a.m. Wednesday when the motorcyclist, riding a 1998 Kawasaki westbound on Santo Road, ran the red light at Friars Road, San Diego Police Officer John Buttle said. The motorcycle collided in the intersection with a passenger vehicle turning left from Friars Road onto Santo Road.
Paramedics took the motorcyclist to a hospital with serious injuries that were not expected to be life-threatening, Buttle said. The 50-year-old driver of the other vehicle was not believed to have been injured.
Investigators from the San Diego Police Department’s traffic division believe the motorcyclist was driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
