The 69-year-old man found dead after he had rented a small boat in Oceanside had not been publicly identified at midday Sunday.
The man had rented a small boat out of Oceanside Harbor at about 10:40 a.m. Saturday and was due back at 1 p.m., but never showed up, Oceanside police Lt. Kedrick Sadler said at the time.
Police later found that the rental boat had washed onto the beach unmanned near the intersection of Oceanside Boulevard and Pacific Street, Sadler said — more than two miles south of the harbor.
Officers in a police helicopter located the body at around 2:30 p.m. Saturday, according to Oceanside police Sgt. Greg Stahley. He was pronounced dead on the shore.
