A burglar assaulted an 82-year-old San Ysidro woman and stole her car Thursday after she caught him ransacking her home, authorities reported.
The victim returned to her residence in the 200 block of West Park Avenue from an outing about 9 a.m. to find the thief in her living room, clutching a screwdriver, according to San Diego police.
The intruder responded by grabbing the woman, throwing her to the floor and demanding she give him her car keys, Officer Tony Martinez said. She complied, and he left the home and fled in her silver 2003 Toyota Camry.
Medics took the victim to a hospital for treatment of minor abrasions to the back of her head.
The victim described the thief as a thin, roughly 5-foot-7-inch Latino in his 30s, wearing a black zip-up jacket with a white design on it.
About an hour after the home-invasion robbery, police located and recovered the stolen car, Martinez said.
The thief remained at large Thursday afternoon.
