A man accused of shooting a Clairemont resident in the head outside the victim’s home — resulting in his death two weeks later — pleaded not guilty Wednesday to a murder charge.
Jeffery Alan Turner, 36, was ordered held on $5 million bail in the death of 52-year-old Frank “Pancho” Magana.
On Jan. 3 about 7 p.m., San Diego police received a 911 call regarding a shooting in the 4600 block of Sauk Avenue in Clairemont. Officers found Magana lying on the ground in front of his residence and provided medical aid to the victim before he was transported to a local hospital, where he died on Jan. 16.
A motive was unknown, nor was it clear if the victim and the defendant knew each other.
Turner will be back in court March 21 for a status conference and March 27 for a preliminary hearing.
He faces life in prison if convicted.
