La Mesa police Monday fired shots at a dog that charged at them while they were responding to a call, but the animal was not hit, a lieutenant said.
Around 8 a.m., two officers were dispatched on a report of a domestic dispute at a home in the 7800 block of Grape Street, La Mesa police Lt. Chad Bell said. While the two were walking from their vehicle to the residence, a dog came out of the driveway and charged at them, Bell said.
One of the officers fired off two shots at the dog, but missed. Meanwhile, the other officer managed to get the dog into the patrol car, he said.
The dog was taken to the El Cajon Animal Shelter, where an animal control officer will “evaluate how violent it is,” Bell said.
Officers also found no crime had occurred at the residence — “just some family members not getting along,” Bell said. No arrests were made.
