A man was struck and killed on Interstate 5 near Old Town early Saturday, and the abandoned car found not far away may match the license plate found on a bumper left at the scene, it was reported said.
California Highway Patrol officers got a report of a body in the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 in the 2 a.m. hour, NBC San Diego reported.
The victim was pronounced dead at 2:44 a.m., according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s office. He has not yet been identified.
Officers found a license plate they believe may belong to the car that hit the victim, the news station said. The plate was registered to a 2004 Honda Accord.
Investigators later found an abandoned car at a nearby gas station that may have been involved in the crash, according to NBC.
The case remains under investigation.
