The San Diego Sheriff’s Department is planning increased DUI patrols across San Diego County on Super Bowl Sunday and continuing into Monday morning.

Between 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon and 5 a.m. Monday, deputies will be looking for drivers impaired by alcohol or drugs, especially marijuana.

“If you are caught driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, you will go to jail,” said Sheriff Bill Gore. “Crashes caused by impaired driving are 100 percent preventable.”

Last year deputies arrested 1,225 people in San Diego County on DUI charges.

The department reminded football fans to plan a safe way home before the game begins and call 9-1-1 if they see an impaired driver on the road.
