A natural gas leak prompted the evacuation of a strip mall in the 2200 block of East Plaza Boulevard, just east of Interstate 805 in National City, a city official said.
According to reports, construction crews hit a gas line and the gas cloud was entering stores in the strip mall.
The North County Fire Department arrived on scene and started to evacuate the entire mall which contains between 20 and 30 businesses.
SDG&E crews were also on the scene to halt the leak, according to reports.
There are no reports of injuries and the incident is under investigation.
