Authorities Friday identified a 53-year-old motorcyclist who was killed in a collision this week near the waterfront in Ocean Beach.
El Cajon resident Ronald Ray Hegwood was riding to the east on a curving stretch of roadway in the 5100 block of West Point Loma Boulevard shortly before 2 p.m. Wednesday when he lost control of his Harley-Davidson and collided with an oncoming Ford Escape, according to San Diego Police.
Hegwood, who was wearing a helmet, tumbled onto the street and slid into a parked vehicle, Officer Tony Martinez said.
Paramedics took the badly injured victim to UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest, where he was pronounced dead “despite advanced life-saving measures,” according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s office. Hegwood died from multiple blunt force injuries, including severe head trauma and internal injuries.
No other injuries were reported in the crash.
