Two women brandished knives and punched a man with whom they were previously riding before stealing his car in Logan Heights, police reported Wednesday.

The relationship between the two women and the victim was not immediately clear, though the victim drove the women to the area of South 30th Street and National Avenue around 8 p.m. Tuesday, San Diego Police Sgt. Ed Zwibel said. There, they met a second man, and the group of four planned to drive somewhere else together.

But before leaving, an apparent disagreement exploded into violence, Zwibel said.

“An argument ensued and the two females brandished knives and punched the victim,” the sergeant said. “The (second man) joined the females and took the victim’s vehicle.”

One of the two women and the man who met the group fled in the victim’s vehicle, striking a nearby vehicle as they sped away, Zwibel said.

Detectives from the San Diego Police Department’s robbery unit were investigating the carjacking.
