A gang-related beating by a group of attackers armed with sticks and bottles left a man with a cut on his head and a possible broken arm near a San Ysidro elementary school, police said Tuesday.
Police were dispatched just after 11 p.m. Monday to the 300 block of Avenida De La Madrid near Smythe Elementary School, San Diego police Sgt. Ed Zwibel said.
It wasn’t immediately clear how many men were involved in the attack on the 37-year-old victim or what prompted the violence, Zwibel said.
“During the assault, the victim was injured after being struck by sticks and bottles,” the sergeant said. “The victim suffered a non-life- threatening laceration to his head and a possible broken arm.”
Paramedics took the victim, whose name was withheld, to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
Gang unit detectives were assigned to investigate the assault.
