A man in a wingsuit made a hard landing in Otay Lakes on Monday — the third such incident in the past month.
The man landed more than one mile away from the landing zone at SkyDive San Diego around 11:30 a.m. and was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. A general manager at SkyDive San Diego told Fox 5 News the man landed in a mountainous area and suffered a concussion and a broken nose.
The manager told the station the wind blew the man to an alternate landing location where he made a hard landing. A second person in a wingsuit was able to land safely at nearby Olympic Park in Chula Vista, the manager said.
According to Fox 5, the injured man was an experienced wingsuiter with more than 200 skydiving jumps.
This is the third hard landing at the skydiving location in the past 30 days. A female skydiver sustained major injuries on Nov. 26 after she was forced to make a hard landing in Jamul. On Nov. 28, a Navy trainee was injured in a skydiving exercise in the same area.
