Authorities Thursday identified the 19-year-old man who arrived dead at a hospital following an apparent gang-related stabbing in El Cajon that also left a 17-year-old boy hospitalized with serious injuries.

Kyle Khamphan of El Cajon was taken to Sharp Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa late Tuesday night in a private vehicle, but he was dead by the time he arrived about 8:20 p.m., according to El Cajon police and the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Police withheld the name of the 17-year-old boy injured in the same incident, which the initial investigation indicated was gang-related

Patrol officers were dispatched just before 7:50 p.m. Tuesday to the report of a fight in the 700 block of East Park Avenue in El Cajon, but when they arrived all of the combatants were gone, police said.

A short time later, the younger victim was discovered in a nearby apartment and taken to a hospital by paramedics.

A citizen in a private vehicle drove Khamphan to the La Mesa hospital, where detectives responded to launch their homicide investigation.
