A 31-year-old man was behind bars Thursday on suspicion of fatally shooting a pedestrian on a Linda Vista roadside from inside a moving car 14 months ago.
Orlando Javier Sanchez of San Diego was arrested Wednesday for allegedly gunning down 23-year-old Jordy Lopez on Oct. 15, 2016, according to police.
Shortly after 4 a.m. that day, someone in a passing vehicle threw a beer bottle at Lopez as he was walking in the 2200 block of Comstock Street, Officer Tony Martinez said. A moment later, an occupant of the same car opened fire on the victim.
Medics took Lopez to a hospital, where he died about four hours later.
Police did not disclose a suspected motive for the slaying or reveal what led detectives to identify Sanchez as the alleged killer.
Sanchez was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of murder and being a felon in possession of a gun. He was being held on $2 million bail pending arraignment. scheduled for Friday afternoon.
