Casa Familiar is partnering with the San Diego Police Department as well as the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office for a gun buyback event, and officials are offering cash for firearms with no questions asked.

Scheduled Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Caltrans Park and Ride on Caliente Avenue at SR-905, participants will receive a gift card valued at $150 for hand guns, rifles or shotguns, and $250 for assault weapons.

All weapons must be operational, and explosives, ammunition or inert devices will not be accepted. Weapons should be unloaded and transported in a trunk. Weapons must remain in the trunk until removed by an officer during the event, according to a statement from the SDPD.

Gun deaths and injuries could be reduced “with fewer guns available on the streets,” the statement continued.

“Casa Familiar, the San Diego Police Department and the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office are committed in helping reduce the incidents of gun violence in San Diego,” according to the statement.
