A fire destroyed an apartment unit Sunday night in El Cajon, but crews successfully worked to spare adjacent dwellings from the flames.
The two-alarm blaze was reported shortly before 6 p.m. at 181 Ballantyne Street.
When crews arrived, the unit was “well involved” in flames, according to Heartland Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief Brian Manns.
A female resident inside the apartment escaped without injury.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
