Crews extinguished a small grass fire in Balboa Park next to the Cabrillo Freeway.

The blaze burned a part of a grassy embankment next to Highway 163. An area measuring about 50 feet by 50 feet burned on the southbound side of the freeway near Quince Street, according to San Diego Fire Department spokeswoman Monica Munoz.

Firefighters responded to the fire at around 2:45 p.m.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but it appears to have started next to an abandoned vehicle, Munoz said.
