A man threatened to jump from a downtown building for more than seven hours overnight, causing street shutdowns before police were able to talk him down early Sunday.
At about 10 p.m. Saturday, dispatchers received a call about a man climbing a ledge above the Gourmet India restaurant on Fourth Avenue, according to the San Diego Police Department.
A caller told dispatchers she was afraid the man was going to jump off the roof, officers said.
Police responded and shut down Fourth Avenue and F Street in the area.
After an hours-long standoff, police were able to get onto the roof and encourage the man to get off the roof. By about 5:45 a.m., the man was in police custody, officers said.
He was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital for a mental evaluation, officers said.
The man was not publicly identified.
