A female pedestrian who may have been attempting to cross Interstate 8 in La Mesa during Friday evening during rush-hour traffic was struck and seriously injured.
The incident was reported around 5 p.m. on the westbound side of the freeway near the El Cajon Blvd. exit, according to news reports from the scene.
The driver of a white Toyota sedan who struck the pedestrian was cooperating with California Highway Patrol investigators, according to reports.
The victim was transported to a nearby hospital. Her current condition is unknown.
