An unidentified pedestrian was killed Wednesday in a predawn accident involving a hit-and-run driver on Interstate 8 in Mission Valley.
The roughly 50-year-old man was trying to cross the freeway to the south on foot in the predawn darkness when a westbound 2002 Toyota Tacoma hit him near Taylor Street about 6 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Following the impact, the pickup truck veered to the left and rear-ended a 2015 Acura RDX, and a third vehicle ran over the downed pedestrian, the CHP reported. The person behind the wheel of the latter car — believed to be a Nissan Altima — continued driving and left the area, authorities said.
The victim, whose name was not immediately available, died at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
