A magnitude-3.9 earthquake that struck in the Pacific Ocean, nearly 30 miles southwest of Santa Catalina Island, rattled the Southern California coast early Tuesday.
The quake was reported just after midnight, about 48 miles south-southwest of Rancho Palos Verdes, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
Authorities at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Avalon Station on Santa Catalina Island said it was “a bit of a shaker,” but no injuries or damage were reported.
The quake was 2.4 miles in depth, according to the USGS.
