Firefighters were working toward containing a 115-acre wildfire that was sparked Saturday in the unincorporated rural community of Campo.
The fire was initially reported as being 30 to 50 acres in size, but was more accurate mapping indicated the fire was over 100 acres. It was 20 percent contained as of 3:45 p.m., Cal Fire spokesman Kendal Bortisser said.
Dubbed the “Church Fire,” the site of the blaze is near state Route 94 and Church Road in Campo, about 60 miles east of San Diego. The blaze is adjacent to the Campo Indian Reservation and south of the Golden Acorn Casino.
A number of ground and air crews were at the scene of the blaze, Bortisser said.
There was an immediate structure threat, and an evacuation order was issued for Church Road south of Route 94, Bortisser said. Route 94 was temporarily closed between Live Oak Road and BIA/15 Road.
Evacuation orders were lifted at 4:30 p.m. Saturday and the California Highway Patrol began to reopen the roads that were closed.
All road closures were lifted by 5:30 p.m.
It was unclear precisely how many buildings were at risk, and no buildings were damaged by the flames, Bortisser said.
