A suspect was arrested Tuesday in connection with a stabbing that left a man dead in Mission Valley 16 months ago.
Deputy federal marshals took 30-year-old Calvin DeVaughn Hobby into custody in Rochester, New York, on suspicion of murdering Michael Nichols of San Diego on June 19, 2016, according to police.
Shortly before 9:30 a.m. that day, officers responding to a 911 call of a man down on a sidewalk in the 1300 block of Hotel Circle South found Nichols, also 30, with a stab wound to his upper body, San Diego Police Department Lt. Todd Griffin said. The victim died at the scene.
Griffin declined to disclose a suspected motive for the stabbing or reveal what led investigators to identify Hobby as the alleged assailant.
Hobby will be extradited to San Diego to stand trial in the case, Griffin said.
