A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday in a head-on collision with a big rig on a stretch of back-country highway in the far southern reaches of San Diego County.

The 56-year-old San Diego resident was traveling to the west on state Route 94 in Dulzura about 12:15 p.m. when his Harley-Davidson veered across a set of double yellow lines near Campbell Ranch Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The two-wheeler crashed into an oncoming tractor-trailer, killing the rider at the scene. His name was withheld pending family notification.

The trucker, a 30-year-old San Diego man, was unhurt, CHP public-affairs Officer Kevin Pearlstein said.

Authorities closed the westbound side of the rural roadway into the mid- afternoon to allow for investigation and cleanup.
