A man was shot in the head on a residential street in La Mesa by an acquaintance Sunday, but police are still investigating what may have prompted the violence.
Police received several 911 calls at approximately 4:47 p.m. regarding a shooting in the 4400 block of Glen Street, according to Lt. Chad Bell of the La Mesa Police Department. When officers arrived on scene they found the victim lying in the street with a gunshot wound to the head, the lieutenant said.
The man was transported to a local hospital in “very, very serious condition,” Bell added.
A resident of the neighborhood, who is an acquaintance of the victim, is the suspected shooter and Bell said detectives are continuing to question the man “to determine what caused the shooting.”
“The suspected shooter is not in custody at this time and is being questioned by La Mesa police detectives,” he added.
La Mesa police were expected to remain on scene for several hours, according to the lieutenant.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the La Mesa Police Department at (619) 667-1400.
