An ex-con who bludgeoned an acquaintance to death in the victim’s East County home was sentenced Wednesday to 25 years to life in prison.

Rory Patrick Fay, 33, pleaded guilty in February to murder and an allegation that the killing of 64-year-old Bren Fisher was committed during a residential burglary.

Fisher’s remains were discovered on Jan. 7 last year at his home in the 9900 block of Bridon Road in Flinn Springs, just east of El Cajon. Sheriff’s officials said the body showed visible signs of trauma.

In testimony at a previous hearing, the defendant was described as a “family friend” of the victim, who had limited mobility and required a walker or cane to get around.

Sheriff’s investigators said Fay visited Fisher occasionally.

The defendant, who served prison time for a 2013 conviction for possession of a loaded firearm and an illegal substance, was arrested on a probation revocation warrant two days after Fisher’s body was discovered. He was later rebooked on the murder charge.
