A South Bay contractor was arrested this week on suspicion of trying to bribe a building inspector, authorities said Thursday.
Jorge Guevara, 65, allegedly offered the city official cash last week to revoke a municipal “red tag” notice serving as a stop-work order on a building the suspect was working on in National City, according to police.
Guevara promised to return at a later date with money to secure the removal of the citation, though he had no intention of correcting the identified violations that prompted it, Sgt. Chris Sullivan said.
Shortly before 1 p.m. Wednesday, Guevara met the inspector at a city office and gave him cash, at which point detectives arrested him.
Guevara, a Chula Vista resident, was booked into county jail on suspicion of felony bribery.
