Authorities Friday publicly identified a 60-year-old Arizona man who suffered fatal injuries two weeks ago in a solo car crash on Interstate 8 in Boulevard.
Gilberto Sanchez of Yuma was driving to the east when he ran over debris in the roadway near McCain Valley Road and lost control about 8:30 p.m. Sept. 1, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Sanchez’s vehicle spun out, careened off the south side of the freeway and tumbled down a steep bank, coming to rest on its roof.
When paramedics arrived a short time later, Sanchez was alert and responsive. Upon his arrival at Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, however, his condition rapidly deteriorated, and he passed out and stopped breathing.
Physicians tried in vain to revive Sanchez before pronouncing him dead from blunt-force trauma shortly after 11:30 p.m., according to the county agency.
