The San Diego Police Department is planning a DUI and license checkpoint for Friday night at an undisclosed location in San Diego.

Officers will be stopping drivers from 11 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday to check for signs of alcohol or drug impairment as well as proper licensing.

The department regularly announces the checkpoints in advance, noting that “the deterrent effect of DUI checkpoints is a proven resource in reducing the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol or drug involved crashes.”

The location of the checkpoint will be chosen based on previous DUI accidents and arrests.
